Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student, or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Leigh-Ann Johnston, an Leigh-Ann Johnston educational assistant at St. Bernadette Catholic School. Leigh-Ann was nominated by a parent and a colleague who said:

“She is a caring and engaged individual. When I walk my kids to school she greets everyone with kind words and a smile. The children love her and get excited when they see her. That is a rare thing. We want our children excited to go to school and Mrs. Johnston's energy and the way she talks and listens to each student help our children have a positive relationship with school. We need more educators like her that are there for the children. I respect her and am happy my children go to a school with this wonderful individual.”

“Leigh Ann has been a long-standing part of the St. Bernadette school community. She is part of the parent council, and the local church runs fundraisers and other school initiatives. She is loved by staff, parents, students, and community members who appreciate her dedication to her work. Her loving smile, positive attitude, calm demeanor and drive to better the school and community make her a great role model in the education world! Thanks for all you do.”

Steven KiddThis week we are also celebrating Steven Kidd, a lead custodian at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School. Steven was nominated by a colleague who said:

“Snowmageddon had come to Parry Sound! After January brought a two-day school closure in Parry Sound, staff and students were welcomed back to a safe and welcoming school. This was only possible because of our lead custodian, Steve Kidd. He worked tirelessly to ensure the snow was where it should be and everyone could walk from cars and buses without a second thought. I do not think there was a driveway or parking lot that was cleared as well as St Peter the Apostle School. Mr. Kidd volunteers to coach our school hockey team and often is able to connect with and mentor students who might otherwise have slipped through the cracks, but his work during this difficult week has raised the bar for us all. Thank you Mr. Kidd for all you do!”

Elena RobertsFinally, this week we are also celebrating Elena Roberts, a teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic High School. Elena was nominated by a colleague who said:

“Elena has gone above and beyond in providing fun, inclusive bonding experiences for the school. She works tirelessly to give students opportunities to connect and form lasting memories. She is a great pillar of our school and an awesome representative of faith, hope, and love. Elena looks out for the hearts and minds of our students by fostering a lasting and wonderful environment for our students to grow in.”

We would like to thank Leigh-Ann, Steven, and Elena for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
