K-12 Outdoor Design Guide

We strive to create learning environments that nurture students’ development. Our intention is to foster learning that connects students to nature and develops a lasting appreciation of the natural world. Land-based learning and stewardship has been a way of life among Indigenous people for thousands of years and is still important today - as we live, work, play and learn on recognized traditional territory and treaty land.  Developing outdoor play and learning environments that promote stewardship knowledge and skill development through values, attitudes and actions that are informed by reason and faith are provided for our school communities in A Design Guide for K-12 Outdoor Play and Learning Environments in SMCDSB

All users benefit from a well-designed school ground. These guidelines provide a common understanding and a process so that they may discuss, plan, and implement outdoor play and learning environments that connect children and youth to nature.
