Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Kathy Kaminska, a teacher Kathy Kaminska at St. Bernadette Catholic School. Kathy was nominated by a colleague who said:

“Children write letters to her everyday. She is a great teacher, she cares about all her students. She is kind and in great spirits every day.”

Alexandra KollarThis week we are also celebrating Alexandra Kollar, a teacher at St. Jean de Brébeuf. Alexandra was nominated by a colleague who said:

“Alexandra Kollar is to be commended for her exceptional dedication to the students at St. Jean de Brébeuf and her mentorship dedication to teacher candidates and high school coop students. Alexandra consistently goes above and beyond, making a lasting impact on the lives of students, those she mentors, and fellow colleagues.

Alexandra's commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment not only enhances the educational experience for her students but also contributes significantly to the personal growth of many students in the school. Along with running an incredible kindergarten program Alexandra is committed to her school community and demonstrates this by coaching junior and intermediate sports teams at St. Jean de Brébeuf. In addition to her outstanding teaching abilities, Alexandra possesses excellent communication skills, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.

Alexandra is committed to giving her time to teacher candidates and paving a path for them to succeed. She definitely possesses a unique ability to inspire and empower others, and her mentorship extends beyond the academic realm, positively influencing the personal and professional development of those fortunate enough to have Alexandra as a mentor and teacher.

I am fortunate to have been mentored by Alexandra and I am proud and honoured to nominate her as a SMCDSB staff member to be celebrated.”

Angela PurvisFinally, we are celebrating Angela Purvis, a special education resource teacher (SERT) at St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School. Angela was nominated by a parent who said:

“Angela was my son's SERT all four years of high school and made me feel at ease with everything that went on daily when I wasn't there. She not only listened when I had questions or concerns, but she listened to my son with what he thought, and how he was feeling. She always made him feel like he could go to her about anything and he would be supported. It's hard to describe the relationship between a parent and their child's SERT, but it's a special one when it's the right person looking out for their child, and anyone's child would be lucky to have her in their corner.”

We would like to thank Kathy, Alexandra, and Angela for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
