Silver Anniversary

Retractable BannerMay 5th was a special day at The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie. The school celebrated its 25th anniversary with a large crowd of past and present staff, students, and community members. It was standing room only in the gymnasium as a ceremonial procession, complete with a bagpiper, kicked off the silver anniversary celebration.

It was a visual delight to witness school families carrying banners made in the school colours. Each banner displayed one of the school’s Catholic values. The school choir filled the gymnasium with song, making the event even more memorable.

A host of dignitaries were on hand to contribute to the day’s significance. Frances Bagley, the Director of Education, Maria Hardie (Chair), and Susan Van Amelsvoort (Vice-Chair) from the board of trustees were happy to celebrate the school's milestone. The school's inaugural principal, Mary Lynn Atkinson, gave the event a sense of history. Bishop Boissonneau and Father Larry Leger (St. Mary’s Parish) added a touch of solemnity with thoughtful words, blessings, and homily.

One of the event highlights was the presentation of three exquisite stained-glass panels, a gift from the school’s parent council. Amanda Caldwell, an educational assistant at the school, designed the panels. Blessed by Bishop Boissonneau, the panels will grace the school chapel, and serve as a lasting tribute. It was a special day for The Good Shepherd Catholic School, celebrated beautifully by the staff, students, and families that have embraced a faith-filled education.
