On March 21st, the SMCDSB held its Board-level Skills Competition. This is a key event for students. Many hope to compete in the Skills Ontario Competition. Students showcased their abilities and talents in a range of areas. The competition included the culinary arts and carpentry to hairstyling, robotics, and communication technologies. Thanks to St. Joseph's C.H.S. and their staff for hosting this event. They offered a great stage for our students to demonstrate their skills.
The event was not only about competition. It was a celebration of our students' talents and encouragement for those interested in skilled trades. Some students have qualified for the Regional competition at Georgian College on April 13th. Thirty students are moving on to the Provincial Skills Ontario Championships on May 7th. This event will take place at the Toronto Congress Centre. This is their chance to shine and maybe represent Ontario at the National level in the spring.
The SMCDSB community is so proud of these students, and their passion for the skilled trades. Participation at this local competition highlights our students' commitment and journey towards meaningful careers.
