Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Carie D'Souza. Carie is a Lead Hand at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School. He was nominated by a colleague, who said:

I would like to recognize Carie D'Souza. Carie Carie D'Souza has  been at Patrick Fogarty since the school was nothing other than portables in the 80s. He’s seen it through the days of Candy Cane Lane and through the expansion to what it is today. Carie has always been the light of the school and you can recognize it as it is one of the first questions that past students ask when they speak of Patrick Fogarty, “Is Carie still there? I love that guy”. Carie has always been the light of the school, connecting with students on a more personal level as they feel he is someone that they can talk to and joke around with, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t respect him when he tells them to take their hat off and “smarten up”. He manages to have a good view of being approachable while also being a shining example to students of what a hard worker is.

Carie goes above and beyond his regular job duties of keeping the school sparkling clean. He is always there to ensure that the school has what it needs and is in order for the students to learn. This consists of early morning snow shoveling (waking up way earlier than any of us would like to), responding to alarm calls in the early hours of the morning, working overtime on evenings and weekends to ensure the school can be open for sports tournaments and extra curriculars, and ensuring that the school gets their annual ‘Carie performance’ as part of the Christmas carols in the months of December so the students can have a good laugh as its something they have come to expect.

Carie is always there and ready to work with a smile on his face. If you ask any past or present student, they would be able to share a fun Carie memory that puts a smile on their face. Thank you Carie for making everyone feel welcome and a part of The Flame Community”

We would like to thank Carie for his commitment to Catholic education at our board.
