SMCDSB Gets a Lesson in Empathy

SMCDSB Gets a Lesson in Empathy
Posted on 06/18/2018

Last week at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), students and staff were joined by some tiny teachers from the Roots of Empathy Program.

This international program is focused on raising levels of empathy in children, babies, families, teachers, schools and communities. Their research has proven that teaching empathy at a young age results in more respectful and caring relationships, and reduced levels of bullying and aggression.

This year marks the 12th year that SMCDSB has participated in the Roots of Empathy program, with over 5,600 elementary students in 241 classrooms who have seen the benefit of this early intervention program.

Thank you to the Roots of Empathy families, program instructors and all participating students and staff who make this program a fantastic success.
