SEPTEMBER 6, 2016 - BARRIE, ON:  On Tuesday, September 6, students and staff returned to school at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. The summer months were busy for employees as they prepared for the return of more than 20,000 elementary and secondary students. Although enrolment numbers will not be confirmed until after school start-up, projected numbers show that an estimated 13,704 elementary students and 6,749 secondary students will attend one of the board’s 51 Catholic schools. The board is excited to welcome 1,174 new Junior Kindergarten students as they begin their learning journey in a school environment.

With the start of the new school year, the board is also pleased to announce a new free mobile app for parents, students and staff. The free app can be downloaded on the iTunes App Store or Google Play by simply searching SMCDSB. Once downloaded, subscribers will have immediate access to important board and school information including calendar of events, notifications and news.

“This is always an exciting time of year for our students and staff,” said Brian Beal, Director of Education. "Through leadership and service, we take our 20,500 students on an academic and spiritual journey where we focus on helping every child live up to their God-given potential. We are especially pleased to welcome close to 1,200 Junior Kindergarten students and more than 1,600 Grade 9 students as they begin this new phase of learning in our Catholic schools."

Schools will continue to accept new registrations for the 2016-2017 school year. Questions about registration can be directed to your local Catholic school or details can be found at www.smcdsb.on.ca.
