Living in Muskoka, have you ever passed someone on the street and thought, “That is definitely a tourist.” What was your clue? Was it the large beach bag swinging from their arm or maybe the giant sun hat flopping over the side of their head? Possibly, it was the fanny pack around their waist? No matter what gave it away, you know that they are here to appreciate the beauty of Muskoka like you do when you travel south.

In the middle of November, staff and students at St. Dominic's Catholic Secondary School in Bracebridge decided to celebrate a concept all too familiar. Tacky tourists. During the week of November 14th, St. Dominic’s hosted Dragonfire Week, a week of school spirit. Every day there were different options (besides the uniform) to wear to school. Whether it was sock day, hat day, blue or green day, pajama day or even tacky tourist day, students and staff could be seen supporting school spirit.

This awesome week of spirit definitely lifted the “November blues”, but it wasn’t just dress up days - there were daily events in the cafeteria and a Coffee House on Friday. Ping pong, Minute to Win It and food contests were all friendly spirited competitions that engaged students. A Coffee House finished off the fun week. Magic tricks and musical talent were abundant as everyone enjoyed their cup of java!
