On November 21st, students from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School (STS) in Tottenham visited the Canadian Food for Children (CFFC) warehouse in Mississauga to volunteer their time helping the charity. Members of STS’s Leadership Class and China Mission Trip Group spent the day at CFFC assisting the organization with their goal of helping the poor.

Canadian Food for Children is a registered charity with the Canadian government. CFFC currently sends donations to approximately twenty developing countries around the world. Canadian Food for Children was founded in 1985 by Joan and Andrew Simone. The Simones were inspired to create the charity by Mother Teresa, who requested they send food to the poor in Tanzania and Ethiopia where people were suffering due to a drought. They continue to be motivated by their Catholic faith and the teachings of Jesus. CFFC is run entirely by volunteers, and all donations go to the poor in developing countries. The warehouse in which donations are packed is located in Mississauga.

As a member of the China Mission Trip Group, STS students had the honour of visiting the CFFC warehouse. Friendly volunteers greeted our group warmly, and gave us an introduction to the organization. Everyone promptly got to work on various tasks such as sorting donated items, loading boxes into containers, and assisting with office work. It was thrilling to see the amount of donations that came in while we were there! Everyone agreed that this was an inspiring experience, working with such amazing people, and for a wonderful cause. I would highly recommend that other schools sign up to help Canadian Food for Children.

For anyone wishing to contribute, Canadian Food for Children accepts donations of all kinds. As little as one dollar can provide 20 nutritious meals for the poor in developing countries around the world.
