Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) Appoints New General Manager and CEO

AUGUST 15, 2016 – BARRIE, ON: Last spring, the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) Board of Directors began the search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager. The SCSTC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that John Barbato has been appointed as CEO and General Manager of the SCSTC effective August 9, 2016.

John brings extensive knowledge and management experience in both the administrative and operational roles of school bus consortia. John was most recently the Operations Manager of the SCSTC, and previously held the role of Administrative Supervisor.

“I am confident that John’s experience will benefit the efforts of both member district school boards as the SCSTC continues to operate one of the most safe, efficient and effective student transportation systems in the Province of Ontario,” said Peter Derochie, Chair of the SCSTC Board of Directors. “A key role for John will be to lead the strategic plan development and implement strategies that support our mission, vision and strategic plan.”

The SCSTC provides student transportation services within Simcoe County for the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB). The role of the SCSTC includes contracting bus and vehicle operators on behalf of the SCDSB and SMCDSB. The SCSTC plans and coordinates safe and efficient home-to-school transportation for more than 34,000 students, travelling 61,000km daily on 715 school vehicles to 155 public and Catholic schools. The role of the CEO is to oversee the administration and operation of this school transportation system.
