Register to Defeat Depression and Move for Mental Health
Posted on 08/02/2016

On Sunday, September 11, 2016, individuals can “move for mental health” with the 1st annual Defeat Depression Campaign. The event will be held downtown Barrie and participants can run or walk up to ten kilometers to raise awareness for mental health. Physical activity and social interaction has been shown to have a positive impact on mental health and the campaign wants to highlight that.

The event focuses on awareness and raising funds for local mental health services. Depression is a common illness that affects many individuals and families and is often stigmatized. The campaign aims to reduce this stigma and encourage those who suffer to seek help and treatment earlier.

Individuals can register online as a single or as a team and can create their own online fundraising page. Donations go directly to local organizations that provide assistance for individuals and families dealing with mental health illnesses, as well as the national campaign.

Please see the Defeat Depression Campaign poster and visit their website for additional information and how to register.
