Music graphicEvery year on May 1st, schools across Canada celebrate Music Monday. This event was created in 2004 by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada. It brings attention to the importance of music education in Canadian schools.

This year, the group's YouTube channel featured two SMCDSB teachers. John Miorin, a teacher at St. Cecilia Catholic School in Alliston, and Andrew Salazar, a teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas in Tottenham, made it into the Spotlight Celebration.

The musical duo contributes to the event each year. Their unique cover of Justin Bieber’s, “Hold On” was featured in the 2023 round up of contributors.

The Coalition for Music Education in Canada is a non-profit association. Its aim is to raise awareness and knowledge of music's role in Canadian culture. They advocate for the value of music education in the lives of all Canadians. The Coalition’s goal is to ensure that all children have access to high-quality, developmental music programs in their schools.
