Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Candice Swaile and a group of staff at Monsignor Michael O'Leary Catholic School.

Candice is a teacher at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus. She was nominated by a parent, who said:

“Mrs. Swaile is a magnificent teacher and has now taught both of our sons in grade 8. Our youngest son will graduate at the end of thiscandice swaile month. She recognizes that these young people are about to enter high school and her expectations are high but they are treated in a way that they are able to mature in their environment. Mrs Swaile goes above and beyond the call of duty and strives for her class to achieve their potential. In doing so, she also has compassion and empathy for a grade 8 student in life. Both of our sons learned skills that prepared them for the future.

As a parent Mrs Swaile is always there when you need her and very professional. We were blessed to have her as a teacher for both of our sons in grade 8 and we truly believe her teaching and guidance prepare students to be independent. They said “Mom she does not treat us like we are little but rather young people”. We wish Mrs Swaile all the best in the future and we are grateful as a family for her in our lives.”

Anna Turner, Siobhan Millen, Laura Pokocky and Janet Carswell are or were staff at Monsignor Michael O'Leary Catholic School in Bracebridge. This group of staff were nominated by a colleague, who said:

mmo logo“The team of Anna Turner, Siobhan Millen, Laura Pokocky and Janet Carswell has worked together to transform the library at MMO into a learning commons that is inspiring students to find their passion each and every day.  They have gone above and beyond to source funding, engage the broader community, and consistently assess what elements are working and what is needed to make the space even better...all in less than a year. Opportunities for both staff and students to "play" have resulted in "champions" who can share the possibilities with others throughout the school.  The staff have created a true 21st century learning environment for our students!”

We would like to thank Candice and the team at Monsignor Michael O'Leary for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
