Every week we celebrate individuals in the SMCDSB community who have been recognized for going above and beyond to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we are celebrating William Q. and Kenny H.

William is a student at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School in Orillia. He was nominated by a staff member who said:

“William has been volunteering at The Sharing Place since the Learning atHome has started. He works 2-3 times per week. With the social distancing changes due to COVID, The Sharing Place has needed a bit of extra help preparing food packages for delivery. William and his two older brothers (both Patrick Fogarty graduates) help prepare the food packages for the volunteer drivers or help with picking up food donations at the local grocery stores.”

Kenny is a student at Monsignor Lee Catholic School in Orillia. She was nominated by a staff member who said:

"Kenny is a Senior Kindergarten student at Monsignor Lee school in kenny hOrillia, and wanted to help those in need. She overheard her Mom expressing the need for food and household items for families within her own community. Kenny took action right away. She asked her Mom to help her organize a neighbourhood food drive for the Salvation Army. Kenny delivered over 200 flyers to her neighbour’s mailboxes inviting her neighbours to leave non-perishable goods at the end of their driveways. Kenny and her family drove around collecting the donations, while exercising contactless procedures. They ended up filling three van loads to donate! Kenny was following in Jesus’ footsteps by providing hope to those in need. What an incredible act of kindness and leadership.”

We would like to thank William and Kenny for their incredible effort in helping others during this time.
