Arts are a way for us to display our imagination and artistic minds. The arts classes of Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood put on a presentation for all the families of Vanier and local elementary schools on January 14th. The purpose of the arts activity was to showcase what the arts are like at Jean Vanier. Arts in Motion was a collaboration between the drama, music, dance, photography and visual arts classes of Vanier. The dedication and creativity of arts students was impressive.

The dance portion was organized by Ms. Wheatcroft and included both group and solo performances. Students danced to songs such as “All In This Together” from High School Musical and “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith. The musical performance organized and conducted by Mr. Frackowiak included both junior and senior music classes. The students played famous pieces such as The Nutcracker and the theme from The Pink Panther. It was a particularly special evening for Mr. Frackowiak as this was his final concert before his retirement from teaching. The drama portion of the show was organized by Ms. Hachey’s class and they acted out scenes from the play Hairball by Lindsay Price.

While not part of the performances on stage, the Visual Arts and Photography class displayed their work in the school foyer for everyone to see. Their work demonstrated the different styles and artistic abilities of the students at Jean Vanier in both photography and the visual arts such as drawings as well as paintings.

Two local elementary schools - St. Mary’s Catholic School and St. Noel Chabanel Catholic School - were also invited to enjoy Arts in Motion during a daytime performance. Hopefully the younger students who are artistically inclined caught the excitement at Jean Vanier and are looking forward to becoming future students when they graduate from Grade 8.
