Hearing the Student Voice

Hearing the Student Voice

We know that school staff make every effort to create an inspiring school atmosphere for our students, but we can’t forget about a group of students who keep the interests of our students a top priority. The Student Senate recently had their second meeting of the school year to discuss ways to work collectively to improve each school community.

On Friday, November 24, 2017, the Student Senate, made up of representatives from each of our nine high schools, met with Student Trustee McKenna McCoy and the Superintendent of Secondary Education to bring the needs and interests of students to the forefront. The meeting included team building sessions from St. Peter’s CSS teacher, Ms. Lemieux and a discussion regarding social media, school spirit, and improving the presence of the Student Senate in the schools.

Also on the agenda was the election of the next student trustee. Along with McKenna McCoy, the Student Senate heard speeches from potential candidates and voted to elect the next 2018-19 student trustee. The decision will be announced at the initial board meeting of the new year on December 6, 2017.

We would like to recognize this group of students who consistently seek ways to improve our school communities and strive to make the student voice heard.
