St. Monica's Student Wins National Writing Contest
Grade 7 student Elijah Wachowiak from St. Monica’s Catholic School in Barrie is celebrating after winning the 2018-2019 Kids Write 4 Kids creative challenge.
The competition, sponsored by RIPPLE Foundation, encourages students in Grades 4-8 across Canada to submit their creative writing for a chance to have their work published as an e-book on Amazon, Apple iBookstore, Google Play and Overdrive.
All submissions were required to be no more than 7,500 words and were reviewed and scored by a judging panel comprised of past winners, authors and self-proclaimed bookworms. Points were awarded for creativity, story structure and style and tone.
Elijah’s submission, “The Third Floor,” tied for first place with Lucy Szerminski’s “The Shores of Miami” of all entries in Canada. Both will be published digitally and in print and made available for purchase at Amazon, Apple iBookstore and Google Play in July. Net proceeds sold in 2019 will be donated to Elijah and Lucy’s charity of choice.
Congratulations!
