Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members whom a parent, student, or colleague recognizes.
This week, we celebrate Corey Eby, an elementary

itinerant teacher at Academic Services. Corey was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Corey joined the team as the Elementary Itinerant Teacher in January 2025 and brings a deep understanding of the Ontario curriculum, recent updates, and the importance of culturally responsive integration. An effective collaborator, he is currently supporting a review and update of the elementary resources posted on our First Nation, Métis, and Inuit program webpage that have been developed over the years in response to requests from classroom teachers and school leadership. At this time in our shared history with greater emphasis on reconciliation through education, Corey models attributes that continue to grow across our board, a humble confidence that comes with a deeper understanding of recommended/authentic voice resources, and culturally responsive integration strategies. With the review and update of elementary resources to further support easy access and integration a top priority, it is clear that Corey's contributions will have a significant impact in building on the work to date and supporting elementary initiatives moving forward!”

This week, we also celebrate Tom Robbins, a St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School custodian. Tom was nominated by three colleagues who said:
“Our school is incredibly fortunate to have Tom Robbins as part of our community. He goes above and beyond every day - not just keeping our school clean and safe, but also showing kindness, dedication, and a willingness to help wherever needed. Whether it's staying late to ensure an event runs smoothly, helping staff and students with a smile, or simply making the school a better place through his hard work. His efforts do not go unnoticed. Tom Robbins, thank you for everything you do - you are truly the heart of the school.
Tom is a dedicated and hardworking custodian who arrives early each day, ensuring every hallway and classroom is spotless before anyone else enters the school. With a keen eye for detail, he maintains the cleanliness of every corner, working tirelessly behind the scenes. Despite the physical demands of the job, Tom always carries a positive attitude and a friendly smile for the staff and students he encounters. His dedication to creating a clean and safe environment makes a lasting impact, even though his efforts often go unnoticed.
Mr. Tom is a lot more than a custodian, he defines the term "caretaker". He takes care of our school like it is his home, far above his job description. He is always friendly and joking with both staff and students. He comes in early to make sure that the snow is cleared in every area and that all the walkways are safe. He takes pride in the school being clean and in good working order and is always willing to do what it takes to keep SFA operating smoothly. Our SFA Wolves are lucky to have Mr. Tom!”
We thank Corey and Tom for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
