Habemus Papam! We have a Pope!
It is with great joy and hope that the SMCDSB shares the news that a brand new pope has been elected:
Pope Leo XIV, the successor to our beloved Saint Peter!
The former Cardinal Prevost, he is a joint American and Peruvian citizen, and a member of the Augustinian order.
Beginning his papacy as the leader of our universal church in this Jubilee Year of Hope leads us to pray for his leadership and also to commit ourselves to continuing on our pilgrimage of Faithful Steps and Hopeful Journeys.
We pray for Pope Leo:
Loving and caring God,
we praise and thank you for giving the Church the gift of our new pope, Leo XIV.
As he begins this important new role in the Church,
we ask you to bless him with strength and wisdom,
with vision and confidence,
as he leads the Church, and helps us to follow Jesus faithfully.
We praise you, Lord, for the gift of Pope Leo,
though Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
