Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.
This week we are celebrating Christine Ignas and Gord Van Clieaf.
Christine is an ESL Itinerant teacher with SMCDSB. She was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Christine has an amazing love for and dedication to
all student newcomers to SMCDSB. Not only is she the voice and reason for them, she believes in doing whatever she can to ensure the newcomers are welcomed in our schools and they have all the tools necessary to be successful in our system. Christine is passionate about supporting newcomers, not only in our schools, but within the community. Thank you Christine for your hard work and dedication.”
Gord is the Disability Management Coordinator at the SMCDSB. He was nominated by a colleague who said:

“What can be said about Mr. Van Clieaf, that most of us do not know? Well for me this man has been a rock for me while I struggle to get back to working. Mr. Van Clieaf (although the rules need to be followed) does his utmost best to take away the stresses and fears when you are facing medical issues and an uncertain future. This man oozes (in my humble opinion) empathy and understanding. For me this is a comfort in knowing if need be he is a source I can turn to for help. So I just wanted to give a shout out to a man most of us hope we never have to see on a professional basis, but if you find yourself there well know Mr. Gord Van Clieaf to me is one of the good guys.”
