LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.

This week we are celebrating Gordon Grant and our team of Speech and Language Assistants.

Gordon is a Head Custodian at St. Michael the Gord Grant Archangel Catholic School in Barrie. He was nominated by a colleague, who said:

I am nominating Gord because his is such a kind soul. He always takes the time out to acknowledge you and thanks you greatly for being in his school. He can never thank you enough for taking the time to be there and to help out. Doesn't matter if you can't get everything done because you spent too much time on those little things, he is just thankful that you are there.

Gord would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He loves to know a little about you life and will always ask you how those things are.

I know I will personally miss that smiling face when he finally decides to retire. We do know that he will return as a casual custodian because he will just need something to do to keep him busy and happy.

Gord you are such an AWESOME person, I wish you many great summer adventures at your cottage, and some well spent relaxation in Florida (not rushed time). I know that you will be missed at MAC when you do finally share that last day!

It has been such fun working for you, with you and beside you over the last number of years. Elementary schools just never get the coverage they desire with casual staff, but in the future maybe you can help with those number too! Ha-ha.

Senga Griffin, Shelley Guimond, Annette Leibovitch, Kristy O'Neill, Christy Medeiros, and Janice Orser (now retired) work in all of our board's schools as required. They were nominated by colleagues, who said:

We would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated Speech and Language Assistants of SMCDSB who work steadfastly everyday with our students with speech, language and literacy impairments. Annette, Janice, Kristy, Senga, Christy, and Shelley are all passionate about the service they provide and pour their hearts into the direct support they offer our students. Along with their extensive knowledge and experience, they carry loads of materials into their schools daily, to ensure individualized service for each student. Recently, they have spent countless hours learning new technology, adapting resources, and preparing digitized materials in order to reach our students via telepractice. Thank you to the SLA team for all that you do, it is greatly appreciated!"

We would like to thank Gordon, Senga, Shelley, Annette, Kristy, Janice, and Christy for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
