Every week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague.
This week we are celebrating Nicolas Caputo and Suzanne Spence.
Nicolas is a teacher at St. James Catholic School
and the Virtual School. He was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Nicolas is an exceptionally supportive team member of our virtual school community. Not only does he share and provide resources for his fellow colleagues, who are still learning the ropes, but he recognizes and supports staff and students’ mental health extremely well. Throughout these first few challenging weeks, Nicolas has shown true leadership, and mentorship, by putting forward questions on our behalf to admin, creating google meets to levee anxiety about the upcoming uncertainty, and has worked one on one with his colleagues to help answer their questions to support their own learning. Nicolas is a true 2020 teacher, and deserves recognition for all that he does!”
Suzanne is a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. She was nominated by parents, who said:
“My husband and I would like to recognize Ms. Spence as she went the extra mile during our daughter's first year of school, ex: reading, writing, etc. This year was a different year as the pandemic had interfered with in-school learning. She made learning fun, educational and taught religion very well through e-learning. Any questions we had, Ms. Spence was quick to respond and had great feedback when needed. Our daughter really enjoyed having Ms. Spence as her Junior Kindergarten Teacher in and outside of school. Our daughter was excited about going to school and learning online. We can't thank you enough for all your support and time. It's our pleasure to nominate Ms. Spence! Thank you again for all that you do!”
