Brooklyn P. and The Barreto Family
Posted on 06/03/2020
Every week we celebrate individuals in the SMCDSB community who have been recognized for going above and beyond to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we are celebrating Brooklyn P. and the Barreto family.

Brooklyn P. is a student at St. Mary's Catholic School in
Collingwood. She was nominated by a community memberbrooklyn P who said:

“Brooklyn has made protective face masks for her mother’s employer with her grandmother. She has donated the face masks to E3 Community Services to ensure the safety of the staff and the individuals who reside at the group homes. Brooklyn has expressed her gratefulness to her mother’s coworkers for caring for those who cannot care for themselves.”

The Barreto family is from St. John Paul II Catholic School and Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie. They were nominated by a staff member who said:

barreto family"This family pledged to help families who have a child battling cancer during this pandemic. They raised money for families through the Tyler Robinson Foundation and when they reached their goal of $500 they all shaved their heads in a show of support. They have now surpassed their goal. This money raised will go towards helping local families as they manage their child’s cancer treatments, a weakened immune system and a pandemic. Their actions not only raised funds but also awareness of what these families are enduring and their selfless act shows these families they do not fight alone. They are heroes shining God’s light in a time of darkness."

We would like to thank Brooklyn and the Barreto family for their incredible effort in helping others during this time.
