Posted on 01/29/2018

JANUARY 29, 2018 - BARRIE, ON: Today, the Ministry of Education announced new funding to build a Catholic elementary school in the Alliston community. The $10,344,569 investment will support a new school which will accommodate 470 students. The project also includes an additional $1,588,137 investment for three child care rooms (49 spaces) at the school.

Additional funding was also provided to purchase new portables as a temporary solution to enrolment growth at Notre Dame Catholic School in Orillia. The $856,800 investment in new portables will help with interim accommodation pressures at Notre Dame and other schools throughout the board, as the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board plans for future capital projects.

“We are pleased that the Ministry of Education continues to see the value in investing in school infrastructure and we are particularly excited about the new funding announced today to support the building of a new school in the Alliston community,” said Carol Corriveau-Truchon, Board Chair. “Many of our communities, especially in the southern areas of our district, are experiencing tremendous growth. Today’s funding announcement will help relieve some of the pressures in the Alliston community and I know they will be excited to begin the process of planning for this new school.”
