FEBRUARY 16, 2017 - BARRIE, ON: The Ministry of Education recently approved funding for a new childcare addition at St. Paul's Catholic School in Alliston. The $1.5 million capital construction project will fund an addition on the existing school, which will accommodate 49 childcare spaces.

It is anticipated that these new spaces will be available in the 2018 - 2019 school year. This addition will provide new spaces for toddlers and preschoolers as well as continued before and after school opportunities for school-aged children.

"Alliston is a growing community, which is why it is so important to provide families with access to new childcare opportunities." said Brian Beal, Director of Education. "Schools are the perfect place to house new childcare spaces and so it is exciting to see the Ministry make such a substantial investment in this area - we look forward to working with our partners at the County of Simcoe to provide the Alliston community with this new childcare facility."

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board will work in partnership with the County of Simcoe to deliver these new childcare spaces.

“There is a growing need for more childcare spaces in Simcoe County and we applaud both the Ministry and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board for investing in our families and working with us to address this gap,” said County of Simcoe Warden Gerry Marshall.  “Schools are a natural choice for childcare spaces as this model can offer many efficiencies and added convenience for busy families managing drop-off and pick-up at multiple locations.”

This funding announcement is part of the Ministry of Education's commitment to increasing the availability of safe, high-quality, childcare for local families, and promoting early learning and development.
