On Monday, May 16th, over 100 Grade 12 students from St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School in Barrie, volunteered to take part in a Day of Action. Working with Change the World Organization, the school was able to arrange for students to volunteer in a variety of locations in Simcoe County. Students accepted the challenge to “leave the community better than they found it” and spent the day trying to make a difference. 65 students were planting trees near Everett, over 20 were volunteering at two seniors homes, and 10 were running a car wash at the Sobeys in Innisfil.

Back at St. Peter’s, three students took on the task of revamping disposal bins that will be placed along Yonge Street in Barrie. The students volunteered to create murals on the garbage barrels, donated by the City of Barrie, with the hope to decrease the amount of litter in the area.

All students did a fantastic job, and most definitely made a difference in the community. Whether it was contributing to the health of our environment, or putting a smile on the faces of local residents, it’s safe to say that the students have given us a reminder that a little volunteering can go a long way.
