Our Lady of Grace and Holy Cross celebrated National Aboriginal Day with whole school events as students rotated to a number of stations to learn about and engage in First Nation, Métis and Inuit culture, games and skills.  Teachers Leah Garland (OLG / mentor) and Lindsay Muelenberg (HCC) worked together to design a day of activities that included storytelling, lacrosse, Métis dot art, Inuksuk building and portage relay races for example.  In the photo on the left, Ms. Muelenberg had students create a wall mural based on David Bouchard’s Sacred Teachings.metis kit

As a way to promote the continued learning experiences Ms. Mulelenberg accepted the Métis Education Kit on behalf of the HCC team. Ms. Garland and Principal Kevin Kuiack accept their Métis Education Kit on behalf of the OLG team!

HCC Principal John Collingbourne commented that, "Students and staff were fully engaged in a wide variety of activities that celebrated Aboriginal culture.  We are very thankful to Mrs. Meulenberg and her team. They spent a great deal of time and effort preparing for the day and it was very successful. The students’ response was amazing."
