Hockey PicSt. Dominic Catholic Secondary School students in Grades 9 and 10 of the 2016/2017 school year can earn two credits by playing the sport they love - hockey. The school is pairing with Hockey Canada Skills Academy to give students more options and opportunities at school.

Two to three times per week students will practice and play at the Bracebridge Arena and the rest of the time will be spent on personal fitness. A qualified instructor will teach students everything they need to know to improve their skills.

No matter your skill or gender, this course is open to you! It doesn’t matter if you’re on a Rep team, in a House League, or if all you know is that hockey requires a stick and a puck. All skill levels are welcome!

“I wish this program could be open to grade 11s. It’s such a great opportunity that is coming to our school,” says Brendan Rooney, a student who does not quite fit the age requirements for this program. Hopefully, this program can expand in the next few years if the first year is a success.

With the arrival of this new program, students are getting more excited about what St. Dominic's has to offer. From this, to Specialist High Skills Major programs for construction and non-profit, as well as interesting courses like Street Art, St. Dominic’s has a lot of diversity. One student, Madelaine Vandenberg, said, “Who knows what’s next? I love that my school is open to such creative learning!”
