Our Community 1

International Language Schools

Our Board recognizes the growing diversity of its communities and is pleased to be able to offer international language classes to students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. We registered over 260 students in our international language classes of Italian, Portuguese and Polish, demonstrating the need for this service. This program provides students with an opportunity to learn a language and to study another culture.

Students participated in a variety of activities from singing and role playing, to class presentations and a Christmas concert. These activities are blended into the program to provide students with an enjoyable and flexible learning experience.

Each course runs on Saturday mornings during the school year and the feedback shows that they are a great success!

Pandemic Planning

We continue to work with many community partners on key initiatives that may affect our schools. Over the past year, we have been working collaboratively planning for a potential pandemic. What is a pandemic?Human influenza, or the flu, is a respiratory infection caused by an influenza virus. From time to time, an influenza virus can change into anew strain for which we may have very little immunity. If this strain spreads rapidly around the world, we could have what is called influenza pandemic.

Influenza pandemic is something we all need to be prepared for, but this is especially true in our schools where student and staff well being is a key priority. To ensure we are prepared, we have worked hard with our partners in Simcoe County to develop our own Influenza Pandemic Preparedness and Response Plan. The goals of this plan are to:

  • Prevent and minimize serious illness and deaths

  • Minimize disruption in our schools
