Schools Chip in for Local Veteran's $1 Million Goal
Posted on 09/12/2018
Over the next couple of weeks, individuals across Canada will lace up their running shoes to take part in another Terry Fox Run. Our schools have always been active participants and have raised over 1.2 million dollars to date. This year, some of our students and schools are chipping in to help a very special Barrie resident hit his lifetime fundraising goal.

93 year-old veteran Will Dwyer has been raising money for cancer and participating in the Terry Fox Run for 36 years. He has raised more than $720,000 - a little short of his one million dollar target. After losing family and friends to cancer, he made it his mission to raise the money for cancer research.

will and summerSummer Madronich from St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie is one of Will’s biggest supporters. Over the years, the Grade 8 student has sought out the help of her family and friends and even requests donations to Will’s cause in lieu of birthday gifts.

Summer’s generous spirit has rubbed off on her school community and other local schools. For this year’s Terry Fox Run, St. Charles in Bradford, St. Catherine of Siena, Saint Gabriel the Archangel, and St. Monica’s in Barrie will donate their fundraising money to Will’s cause to help him reach the one million dollar mark.

Will would greatly appreciate any additional donations. Please consider contributing to his goal by:
  1. Submitting your donation cheque with the memo “for Will Dwyer collection” to the Terry Fox Foundation

  2. Sending your package to the Terry Fox Foundation with a note indicating your wish for the funds to be submitted to Will’s collection

  3. Donating online to Will Dwyer’s collection page
