Nurturing the Spirit of Faith and Learning
Catholic schools are welcoming communities that respect and celebrate the uniqueness of everyone. We work with parents, parishes and the community-at-large to integrate the teachings of Jesus Christ into all aspects of school life.
A Tradition to Support
By directing your tax assessment to support Catholic schools, you are supporting a wonderful tradition that dates back more than 160 years in Ontario. As part of Ontario’s publicly funded education system, Catholic schools educate approximately one third of the students in the province.
Support Catholic Education Today
Now more than ever, it is essential that we work together to make a meaningful and tangible commitment to Catholic education. Your support as a Catholic rate payer sends a powerful message to the provincial government and the broader community about the importance and need for a separate school system.
Even though Section 93 of the Constitution Act of 1867 protects the existence and funding of Ontario’s Catholic schools, some individuals and groups continue to challenge and try to eliminate public support for Catholic schools. The reality is that Catholic education is distinct! The Catholic system offers an educational experience that is different and we need to stand together to preserve this uniqueness and privilege.
The Ontario Catholic Schools Trustees' Association had developed useful resources outlining the importance and value of Catholic education. We encourage you to visit their web site at www.ocsta.on.ca or take a look at their summary report A Discussion on Ontario's Catholic Schools and Their Future and their brochure Catholic Schools – Nurturing the Spirit of Faith and Learning
